Liturgical Ministry
Opportunities Available
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
EMs assist the priest and deacon in the distribution of Holy Communion as needed. Those who are interested in serving in this ministry should be confirmed Catholics in good standing, with a strong Eucharistic faith, who are willing to be trained in this important service. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are normally commissioned for a three-year period for service in a particular parish community. All Extraordinary Ministers can serve not just at Mass but are also commissioned to bring the Holy Eucharist to the sick and the homebound.
Mass Coordinator
Preparation is the key to a prayerful liturgy. The coordinator arrives early to make all preparations for the celebration and organizes the other assigned ministers.
Lectors
Proclaim the readings before the Gospel and the Intercessions during the Liturgy of the Word. Readers must have a strong personal faith and good voice skills.
Altar servers
Altar servers assist the celebrant with the Sacramentary and help prepare the altar. This ministry is open to grade school students, high school students, and college students. Crucifers carry the Processional Cross for the entrance, offertory, and recessional processions.
Altar Society
The Altar Society involves those who help enhance the liturgical celebrations by providing regular care and seasonal decorations for the church.
Visitation Guild
This ministry, a vital facet of our Homebound Ministry, extends the compassion of our parish family to those who are sick at home or at UVA Hospital.
Hospital Extraordinary Ministers
Hospital Extraordinary Ministers bring Communion on Sunday to those who are patients at UVA hospital. They offer to the patients and staff the prayerful support of the Church. Persons serving in this capacity should have an aptitude for dealing with the sick. The time for this ministry is following the 9am Mass.
Hospitality Ministry
Want to serve your fellow parishioners and meet crowds of new people? Join the Hospitality Ministry! Welcome parishioners and visitors as they arrive for Mass on Sundays, help people find seats, assist with the offering, answer questions, accommodate special needs, and pass out bulletins.
Bethany Guild
When a funeral is scheduled, the Bethany Guild can help support the bereaved family through prayer for the soul of the departed and for family members, and by providing food for a reception. Click here to join the email list for notifications.
